Business situation

A dairy customer periodically halted butter production in order to clean cutting knives on which ice droplets had formed.

Business approach

Rubix traced the source of the ice to excess water from a spray used to lubricate the knives prior to passing through a nitrogen tunnel.

Working with Bete UK who specialise in all types of spray nozzles, a new arrangement was soon designed which delivered water far more precisely.

Outcome / saving

Using these new nozzles has cut water consumption by 90% and eliminated overspray without having a detrimental effect on the knives. This has delivered cost savings on three fronts: reduced maintenance, increased production time and lower water bills.
